We
love living in the
mountins, waking up
every day watching
the seasons pass...and
we dont want to ruin
this beautiful environment.
so, we have gone completly
green:
the
chalet
- insulated
throughout to avoid
heat loss, for maximum
effifiency
-
when we bought the
chalet we installed
a new boiler,
more efficient
- eco-lightbulbs,
that last longer
and use less power
-
heating turned down
1 degree. this is
10% greener, and
you barely notice
the differency
power
usage:
-
A our electricity
comes from a hydro-electric
power plant at the
head of the valley
- we
unplug
everything at night
at night and encourage
you to do the same
- we
encourage not to
leave lights
on in empty
rooms, or open
windows
- we
think about our
electricity use-
eg by not
overfilling kettles
or leaving things
on
recycling:
- we
recycle
glass, paper and
cans.
- All
our food waste is
composted
- we
shop locally
and buy organic
local products (reducing
transport costs)
- we
drink "mountain
fresh!"
tap water,
not expensively
produced bottled
water
- we
buy our firewood
from sustainable
forests
- in
summer we eat whenever
possible from our
veggie garden
& fruit trees
travel
- we
take the train
or bus
when possible
- we
bought a very economical
car and
use it as little
as possible
In
addition to all these
measures, we have
also gone carbon
neutral.
we added up the annual
amount of carbon pollution
produced by our lives
and business every
year - the amout we
are contributing to
global warming.
we
then offest this by
donating to www.futureforests.com
who plant trees on
our behalf to balance
our pollution.
why
not join us by doing
the same here...
or
even off-set the pollution
of your flights here...
